Breadbasket | Polka

The simple napkin, which so often sits quietly under the bread or lies on top to keep it warm, here becomes the basket itself.

A thin sheet of wire mesh is enclosed within a removable cotton cover, to be shaped according to the amount of bread it must hold.

Public Bench | City of Vienna

POLKA was among four design studios invited by the City of Vienna to design a bench for use in public parks and streets. In a time of social distancing, it should allow the simple but important act of meeting up with a friend to continue in a safe manner. Two one-seater benches are connected by a table, which  at the same time serves to ensure a distance of one metre between each person. The benches are positioned at an angle for creating a friendly, communicative situation.

The new Vöslauer Gastro Collection is focussing on materials. POLKA designed two new drinking glass shapes, which are produced in three different materials: glass, porcelain and plastic (for use in the wellness industry).

The “Material Edition” provides an unexpected haptical experience.

The velvet like outer surface of the porcelain and plastic version is comforting for hands an lips. These come in the three  colors: mint, lilac and light blue.

A new bottle opener which is also part of the Vöslauer Gastro Collection and made to open a huge amount of bottles effortlessly.
The opener is made from one soft metal loop that lies comfortable in the waiter’s hand.
Also part of the collection is the elegant bottle cooler.
Its material porcelain helps to keep the temperature of the water low and integrates well with other porcelain tableware.
Its soft shape refers to the Vöslauer drinking glass.
In addition the exclusive second bottle opener is an elegant turn on the Vöslauer logo.
The letter V is transformed into an attractive object and a new type of bottle opener at the same time.
According to the logo, the serifs of the font turn the letter into a practical tool.

Porcelain Set / Herend

The Hungarian porcelain manufactory of Herend commissioned  POLKA to design a new porcelain service with new decorative motifs inspired by Herend’s company history. The plates and bowls are painted by hand in richly varied patterns and blended to form a pot-pourri of lavish diversity, with influences ranging from chinoiserie to graphic decorative motifs of the Orient. For the first time Herend is using blue inglazing for the decoration, hence the porcelain is dishwasher-proof.

Glassware Vases | Lobmeyr

The new vase series was inspired by the purity and harmonious forms of water drops as well as the natural flow of liquid glass in the process of production. Coming in three shapes it serves all kinds of different needs for arranging flowers.

Bathroom Furniture | Laufen

A good day begins with a smile. This was our inspiration for the design of the moderna plus bathroom furniture range. The tapered openings of the drawers, reminiscent of a smile, reveal interchangeable linings offered in different colours and woods. Simple lines and functionality are twinned with emotion and individuality.

Home Accessories | Authentics

The simple white napkin, which so often sits quietly under the bread or lies on top to keep it warm, here becomes the basket itself. A thin sheet of wire mesh is enclosed within a removable cotton cover, and can be shaped according to the amount of bread it must hold. The breadbasket was commisioned by the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna, for their restaurant ‚Österreicher im MAK’. Subsequently, it went into production with the German company Authentics.

The Travelbox series of textile bags allows you to organise your possessions for convenient travelling. The bags come in various sizes for different items, from make-up to shirts, and are also useful for storage.

DRINKING SET | Lobmeyr

POLKA developed this basic drinking set  in cooperation with the Viennese Vintners.

The drinking set – consisting of white wine glass, red wine glass, water glass, champagne glass, schnapps glass and a carafe – presents a contemporary alternative to the traditional range. The aim was to develop an uncomplicated, elegant and versatile set to be used often in daily life. The champagne coupe can also be used for dessert, and the water glass for beer.

Over the course of numerous discussions and tastings together with the vintners of the Wien Wein Group, POLKA developed the forms of the two wine glasses which allow a wide sprectrum of different wines to be enjoyed. The name is a homage to the well-known wine ‚Gemischter Satz’, which recently received the prestigious Slow Food award.

In the development of this series, POLKA was inspired by the charming variety of forms that can be found in old glass cupboards. Each glass has its own character, and is produced to perfectly suit its purpose. Beside this functionality the delicate muslin mouthblown glass is a means to celebrate the luxury in daily life.

Glassware Beerglass | Lobmeyr

In the summer of 2008, football arrived in Vienna. And when football comes, as we all know, beer follows. POLKA was invited to toast the event with the creation of an elegant glass in several different versions of cutting and engraving, each inspired by a different side of the beautiful game. The octagonal shape of the old-school football can be found in the pattern, as well as a reminder of the famous game in Cordoba in 1978, when Austria defeated Germany.
