New porcelain for Herend

The Hungarian porcelain manufactory of Herend commissioned POLKA to design a new porcelain service with new decorative motifs inspired by Herend’s company history. The plates and bowls are painted by hand in richly varied patterns and blended to form a pot-pourri of lavish diversity, with influences ranging from chinoiserie to graphic decorative motifs of the Orient. For the first time Herend is using blue inglazing for the decoration, hence the porcelain is dishwasher-proof.

Vienna Designweek 2012 from Sep. 28th to Oct. 6th in the Bulthaup showroom, Opernring 1, 1010 Vienna.

As a celebration of the ‘Talents’ programme, selected ‘Talents’ – amongst them POLKA - who exhibited during the last 11 years will be presented in a special exhibition.

Additional there will be the presentation of the book by Hansjerg Maier-Aichen, Professor for Product Design at the Karlsruhe Design Academy (Hochschule für Gestaltung). Entitled ’10+1 Talents Messe Frankfurt – Eleven Years of Young Design in Progress’, the book reviews the careers of the ‘Talents’ since the first exhibition at Tendence or Ambiente.

TEMPORARY CAFÈ ‘ALMHÜTTE’

POLKA was invited to design a typically Austrian café for the Tendence Fair at Messe Frankfurt. The result is an alpine mountain hut, surrounded by a flock of sheep for sitting on and an interpretation of the traditional corner benches with interlocking tables to rest on and enjoy the panoramic view of the mountains.

HOTEL KEY RING

Inspired by the colourfulness of the ribbons for official medals, these custom-made key bands reflect the personality and diversity of the Hotel Altstadt Vienna. The various key bands were developed in vivid color schemes, to match the hotel’s concept of offering uniquely and differently designed rooms. The bands can also be purchased as a souvenir.
