Breadbasket with textile cover, 2006

Authentics, Germany

The simple white napkin, which so often sits quietly under the bread or lies on top to keep it warm, here becomes the basket itself. A thin sheet of wire mesh is enclosed within a removable cotton cover, and can be shaped according to the amount of bread it must hold. The breadbasket was commisioned by the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna, for their new restaurant ‚Österreicher im MAK’. Subsequently, it went into production with the German company Authentics.
